Input to Legislation regarding Wayfinding & Access to Emergency Departments - Boston, MA

Project Team: Janet R. Carpman, PhD, Polly Welch, and Institute for Human Centered Design

• Provided support for state-level legislation regarding the design of Emergency Department exterior entrances (“Laura’s Law”) drafted by Peter DeMarco as a response to the tragic death of his wife, Laura Levis as she attempted to find and enter the ER at Somerville Hospital. 

• Testified before the Joint Committee on Public Health, Massachusetts State House. 

• Laura’s Law passed on January 5, 2021.
